The Aledo Bearcats finished up the 2010-2011 basketball with a home loss to the Brewer Bears 49-37. Aledo dug a deep hole in the first half. The only Bearcat points in the first quarter came from a Taylor Johnson three-pointer. Johnson, a freshman, finished the night leading the team with 11 points.
The second quarter saw Aledo score only nine points. The only other Bearcats scoring in the first half besides Johnson were Pierce Gentry with two and a basket by Todd Christian. On a night when Aledo honored the seniors, they were shut out in the first half. The Bearcats went into halftime down by 18, 30-12.
The Bears built their lead to 21 points opening the scoring in the second half with a three-pointer. The Bearcat offense began to ignite in the third quarter. A Todd Christian steal and outlet pass to Matt Bishop led to a Robbie Spreier basket cutting the Brewer lead to ten with 3:30 to play in the third quarter. The bucket ended a 15-4 Bearcat run and forced a timeout from the Bears.
After the timeout, Jermane Goldsmith hit a three for Brewer and kept the Bears lead at double-digits. Brewer built the third lead back to 16 with 4:09 left. Danny Glass scored two buckets. Senior Mark Ryles scored the final three points of the third quarter to bring Aledo back to within 11 at the end of the third quarter 40-29.
Despite some great Bearcat defense, the offense just could not get the shots to fall in the fourth quarter. Aledo only gave up 18 points in the second half. Seniors Robbie Spreier, Danny Glass, Mark Ryles, and Aaron Forbes played strong in the second half. After being shut out in the first half, the seniors scored 15 in the second half.
