Ladycats blow out Saginaw
Yusef Marwan scored three goals to lead the Aledo Bearcats soccer team to a 4-2 victory over Saginaw Tuesday night in the District 12-4A finale at Bearcat Stadium which clinched the school's first undefeated district season in boys soccer.
Marwan tallied twice in the first half to give Aledo a 2-0 lead. Thomas Davis earned the assist on the first goal, while Marwan's second goal was unassisted.
Saginaw came back with two goals late in the half to tie the contest, 2-2, which it remained at the break.
Marwan completed his hat trick in the second half with a goal on a Davis assist to give the Bearcats a 3-2 lead.
Davis closed the scoring with an insurance goal on an assist from Nickell.
Ladycats 8, Saginaw 1
The Aledo Ladycats saw six different players score in an 8-1 romp over the Saginaw Lady Roughriders Tuesday night following the boys contest.
Paige Marsh and Ally Swift each scored twice to lead the Ladycats - who led 5-1 at the half - with Stephanie Neeley, Bailey Scott, Michaela Place and Sarah Albritton each adding a goal.
Aledo soccer teams conclude district play at home today
Tonight's (Tuesday, March 9) Aledo Ladycats junior varsity and varsity District 6-4A home openers against Brewer have been postponed due to wet grounds.
The games will be reschedule for tomorrow (Wednesday, March 10) at the Ladycats softball field. The JV game will begin at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m.
Today's varsity District 6-4A baseball opener between the Aledo Bearcats and Brewer Bears - scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bearcat Field - will go on as scheduled.
Not affected by the recent rains are the Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats soccer teams. Both will conclude district action today at Bearcat Stadium against Saginaw.
The boys match will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the girls contest at 8 p.m.

Mittie, the 2010 Most Valuable Player in District 6-4A and a three-time all-district, first-team choice, averaged 19.4 points per game while grabbing 7.3 rebounds, four assists and 4.3 steals per contest.
Five girls from Parker County schools earned TGCA Class 2A all-state honors including Amber and Mandy Makeever of Peaster, and Kamy Cole, Kenisha Harris and Paige Parliament of Brock.

Aledo senior pitcher Austin Vassberg allowed five hits en route to his second win of the season to lead the Bearcats to a 6-3 victory over co-host Trinity Friday night at the HEB Mid Cities Classic at Trinity High School.
The Bearcats (6-2) took advantage of four Trojan errors and needed just three hits - including a home run by Nils Smith and a triple by Hayden Hall - to seal the victory.

Getting primed for postseason play, both the Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats soccer teams won easily against Boswell in District 12-4A matches played today (Friday, March 5) at Bearcat Stadium.
The Bearcats began the evening's games with a 5-2 win over the Pioneers, while the Ladycats strolled to an easy 6-1 victory over the Lady Pioneers in the nightcap.
The district-champion Bearcats raised their 12-4A mark to 11-0.
The win raises the second-place Ladycats district record to 7-4. Although they have not lost a game on the field in district play, the Aledo girls were forced to forfeit earlier district matches against Saginaw, Boswell, Brewer and Springtown due to a clerical mistake regarding a student's "incomplete" grade, according to AHS head coach Derek Vierling.
Both teams will conclude district play against Saginaw on Tuesday, March 9, at Bearcat Stadium.

Aledo senior pitcher Calvin Loftis allowed just two hits in six innings to lead the Bearcats to a 14-0 victory over Lubbock Coronado Thursday at the HEB Mid Cities Classic at Trinity High School.
The state-ranked No. 8 Bearcats (5-2) will continue tournament play at 7 p.m. today against Trinity at Trinity High School.
Loftis (1-1) gave way to senior Austin Vassberg in the seventh inning, who sent Coronado down in order in the final frame.
The Bearcats swatted 13 hits, including a home run each by Asher Zeeb and Lawton Rinker.
The Bearcats also played Richland on Thursday, falling 6-1.
The Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats track teams will compete on Saturday, March 6, at the Pojo Relays at Porcupine Stadium in Springtown.
The meet will begin at 8 a.m. with the girls and boys 3200-meter run.
The junior varsity girls will begin each running event followed by the varsity girls, junior varsity boys and varsity boys. The order changes in some field events.
Girls running preliminaries will begin at 9 a.m., and girls field events and boys running preliminaries are scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Running finals will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Birdville pitcher Randi Fentress held Aledo to four hits while striking out nine to lead the Lady Hawks to a 4-0 win over the Ladycats Wednesday night in the District 6-4A softball opener at Birdville High School.
The Ladycats (5-6, 0-1 in 6-4A) will take a break from district action and play Thursday through Saturday (March 4-6) at the A&M Consolidated tournament in College Station.
AHS will resume 6-4A action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at home against Brewer.
Ladycats pitcher Sarah Simpson took the loss in the circle for Aledo. The senior allowed two earned runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
"Sarah pitched a pretty good game," Ladycats head coach Jeff Lemons said. "We made a few errors that didn't help her and led to two unearned runs, but I was pleased with the command she had on her pitches. It's just the first district game, and there is no panic here."
Junior lead-off hitter Carolyn Clayton led the Ladycats at the plate with two hits, including a triple.
Also recording a hit for Aledo were senior first baseman Rebecca Phillips with a double and junior shortstop Lauren Durham with an infield single.
Former Ladycats first baseman Kelley earns RRAC honor
After the original playing date had been postponed due to recent rains, the Aledo Ladycats will open District 6-4A softball play today (Wednesday, March 3) at 7 p.m. at Birdville.
The contest will be a varsity-only affair.
In other Ladycats softball news, former first baseman Christina Kelley, who started on Aledo's 2008 state championship team and is now playing at Texas Wesleyan University, earned Red River Athletic Conference "Player of the Week" honors last week.
She hit for a .545 average last week with three home runs and 11 RBI to help the Lady Rams win five of six games.
In other AHS contests also rescheduled for today, the Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats soccer teams will continue district play at Azle.
The boys' match will begin at 6 p.m. at Hornet Stadium followed by the girls' contest at 8 p.m.
