Aledo's Jeffrey Merrell shot a 75 today in the final round of the boys District 6-4A golf tournament at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth for a final total of 147 to pace the Bearcats Black team to a final-round score of 317 and a 36-hole total of 629 to win the tournament by 22 strokes over Birdville.
Merrell in first place in top medalist race after shooting 72
Jeffrey Merrell shot a 72 to lead the Aledo Bearcats "Black" team to an overall total of 312 and the lead after the opening round of the boys District 6-4A golf tournament Monday afternoon at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth.
The 36-hole tournament concludes tomorrow (Tuesday, April 13) at Waterchase. The top two teams qualify for the regional tournament in San Angelo.
Aledo Black leads by 18 strokes over over Birdville "Green" (330). Aledo's "Orange" team is in third place at 333, with Mineral Wells in fourth after posting a score of 341.
Merrell leads all individuals, including second-place medalist Zack Collings of Birdville Green, who posted a 74.
Pioneers hand Bearcats second district loss with 12-0 win
Coming on strong early at the plate and even stronger in the circle, the Aledo Ladycats pounded out eight hits and received another brilliant pitching performance from Kacie Brann on their way to a convincing 7-0 win over Boswell Friday night in a key District 6-4A game at Ladycat Field.
The win lifts AHS to an 8-2 district record and in a first-place tie with Boswell and Birdville. The Ladycats' victory also avenged an earlier loss to Boswell.
Aledo will continue 6-4A play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at home against Azle.
Brann held Boswell to four hits while walking three and striking out nine. The sophomore has started each game during Aledo's seven-game winning streak.
AHS junior Alicia Stacy wins top medalist award
Improving by four strokes from their posted score of 351 in the opening round, the Aledo Ladycats golf team finished with a closing-round 347 for a 36-hole total of 698 to win the girls District 6-4A tournament by 91 strokes over second-place Birdville Friday afternoon at Pecan Valley Golf Course in Benbrook.
The victory advances the Ladycats to the regional tournament, which will be Monday and Tuesday, April 19-20, at Bentwood Country Club in San Angelo.
The district's top medalist was Aledo junior Alicia Stacy, who closed with an 80 today after a first-round 84 to finish with a two-day total of 164.
Stacy fires 84 to lead Aledo link ladies
Aledo junior Alicia Stacy shot an 84 to lead the Ladycats to a total score of 351 in the first round of the 36-hole District 6-4A tournament Thursday afternoon at Pecan Valley Golf Course in Benbrook.
The Ladycats lead second-place Birdville (393) by 42 strokes and third-place Boswell (434) by 83 strokes.
The top two teams advance to the regional tournament.
The final round will begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, April 9) at Pecan Valley. Stacy will be in the final group that will tee off at approximately 9:10 a.m.
Stacy shot a 43 on the front nine and rallied with a 41 on the back side.
Aledo junior Jenny France started with a 49 on the front side but came back with a 40 on the back nine to finish at 89.
Brann wins sixth straight in Ladycats' 4-0 victory over Brewer
Aledo senior pitcher Ryan Talley struck out 11 in six innings and senior reliever Austin Vassberg closed out the seventh with a pair of strikeouts to lead the Bearcats to a 5-1 victory over Brewer Tuesday night in a District 6-4A contest at Brewer.
The win raises the first-place Bearcats' district mark to 7-1. Aledo will continue 6-4A play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 9, at home against Boswell.
The Bearcats scored a run in the first, second and fourth innings for a 3-0 lead. Aledo put the game away in the sixth when Hayden Hall smashed a triple to score Rylan Riney and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Blake Dietrich.
AHS captures four District 6-4A titles including a sweep in doubles
Fourteen Aledo High School tennis players quaified for the regional meet after the District 6-4A tournament concluded today at TCU.
Aledo senior Kristin Brikmanis earned the girls' singles championship with a comeback victory. After falling 6-2 in the first set, the three-time district singles champion fought back with wins of 6-2, 6-2, with three service breaks in the final set.
In boys' singles, Aledo freshman Rob Raines fell to returning district champion Vincent Nguyen of Boswell, 3-6, 7-5, 1-6, but with his second-place finish secured a spot at the regional tournament.
The top two in each event qualify for the regional tournament, which will be Monday and Tuesday, April 19-20, in San Angelo
Bearcats in first-place tie with Birdville after 4-2 win over Hawks
Aledo sophomore pitcher Kacie Brann allowed three hits and a walk while striking out nine to lead the Ladycats to a 5-1 victory over Birdville Friday night in District 6-4A action at Ladycat Field.
The win - the Ladycats fifth in a row - raises Aledo's 6-4A record to 6-2 and puts AHS in a second-place tie with Birdville. Boswell leads the district with a 7-1 mark.
With the victory in the circle, Brann raised her district record to an unblemished 5-0.
AHS will continue district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Brewer.
The Ladycats broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.

The National Football Foundation (NFF) Gridiron Club of Dallas announced today the 53 North Texas scholar-athletes who will be honored for their accomplishments on and off the field at the club's second annual awards banquet. The event will be held April 20 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Aledo Bearcats senior defensive end Cy Wilson will be one of the 53 players honored.
"We are proud to announce our second scholar-athlete class for the North Texas region," said Gerald Brence, the president of the NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas and the athletics director for the Plano Independent School District.

Aledo junior power lifter Austin Price, shown in squat competition at the Class 4A state power lifting meet on March 27 in Abilene, finished sixth overall in his weight class with a total of 1,450 pounds.
Price went in to the state meet with the 17th-best total and finished sixth out of 20 in his weight class. Price had personal best lifts in all three competitions. He had a 330-pound bench, a 600-pound squat and a 520-pound dead lift for a 1,450-pound total that was up 50 lbs. from his regional total.
