Bearcats advance in playoffs, defeat The Randall Raiders 42-14

November 25, 2011 by Ken Hoover

The Aledo Bearcats face the Randall Raiders in the 3rd round playoff game tonight at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland. The Raiders are the home team for this meeting and go into the contest with a record of 11-1. Aledo is 10-2 entering tonight's game.

Aledo gets the ball first and moves all the way from their own 35 yard line to the end zone. Matt Bishop got things started with a keeper off the right side for 16 yards. Johnathan Gray takes it in from the one yard line for the first score of the game and it's Bearcats 7 Raiders 0 with 8 minutes left in the 1st quarter.

Aledo will get the ball back after after holding Randall. The Bearcats aren't able to move the ball either and a short punt gives Randall the ball back at their own 40.

They drive to the Aledo 25. Aledo holds them there and will take over on downs.

One play later Johnathan Gray has covered the 75 yards and the Bearcats are up by a 14-0 score after Chance Nevarez' PAT.

James Place gets the Bearcats the ball back and after an incomplete pass Johnathan covers another 55 yards and adds to the score, which now reads Aledo 21 Randall 0.

The next Aledo drive gets a boost from a 51 yard Johnathan Gray run and Michael Mann scores on the next play from 23 yards out. 28-0 Aledo.

Aledo scores again on their next possession on a five yard run by Caleb Frysinger. PAT is good and Aledo now leads 35-0.

Kelton receives Mountain West honor

November 14, 2011 by Randy Keck

Aledo High School graduate and TCU punter Anson Kelton was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in TCU's 36-35 win at Boise State.

Kelton's teammate quarterback Casey Pachall was named Offensive Player of the Week.

Kelton averaged 45.8 yards on four punts. His 62-yard boot was his longest since 62- and 65-yard efforts versus Boise State in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl.

A senior from Fort Worth and Aledo High School, Kelton was key in Boise State having an average starting field position of its own 28.

Pachall has also received National Player of the Week honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Rivals.com and the College Football Performance Awards.

Pachall completed 24-of-37 passes for 473 yards and five touchdowns as TCU snapped Boise State's nation-best 35-game home winning streak. It also ended the Broncos' run of 65 straight regular-season home victories dating back to 2001.

The five touchdowns tied a TCU single-game record shared by three others (Jeff Ballard, Matt Vogler, Steve Stamp). The 473 yards are the second-most in TCU history, trailing only Vogler's 690 versus Houston in 1990.

A sophomore from Brownwood, Texas, Pachall led a 7-play, 73-yard drive in just 1:21 to pull TCU within 35-34 with 1:05 to play. He then capped the drive with a 25-yard scoring pass to Brandon Carter. His 2-point pass to Josh Boyce gave the Horned Frogs a 36-35 lead.

After completing a 2-yard scoring toss to Boyce to cut TCU's deficit to 28-26 in the third quarter, Pachall ran for 2 points to tie the game.

Aledo defeats Dunbar 59-10

November 10, 2011 by Ken Hoover

Bethanie James/Special to The Community News: Garrett Ellis kicks off for the Bearcats in Thursday's bi-district win.

Game Recap
Dunbar took the opening kickoff and started at their own 33 yard line. Todd Christian intercepted a Wildcat pass and Aledo had the ball at their own 17.

The Bearcats drove 83 yards on their first possession of the night. A pass to Preston Bartley for a first down, a run by Johnathan Gray and a big play on a pass to Michael Mann, who laid out and slid about five yards making the catch were the key plays. Gray ran it in from the two-yard line for the touchdown. Chance Nevarez kicked the PAT and the Bearcats were up 7-0 with 6:26 in the first quarter.

Dunbar drove 60-plus yards on their next possession, but had to settle for a field goal making the score Aledo with a little less than three minutes left in the first quarter.

On the next Aledo drive Mann again made his presence known with two key receptions for first downs, as did Caleb Frysinger. Gray covered the last eight yards on a run to the left side and the Bearcats lead 14-3 with about 30 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Second Quarter

Aledo started from their eight-yard line after a Dunbar punt. A holding call erased a Gray run of more than 80 yards to the end zone and Aledo backed up to their four-yard line. Two plays later Willie Gibson scored on a 72-yard pass from Matt Bishop. The PAT was good, 21-3 Aledo nine minutes before halftime.
