Children's production on stage

July 10, 2014 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Sun, 07/20/2014 - 2:00pm

Theatre Off the Square in Weatherford presents its annual children’s production, “Miss Nelson is Missing,” adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, based on the book by Harry Allard and James Marshall. The play is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. This production, in conjunction with Theatre Off The Square’s Summer Children’s Theatre Camp, is directed by Hank Minor, with Wally Jones, Katie Arthurs, and Katie Huitt as assistant directors. Laurie Jones and Jaclyn Justice serve as camp directors. This show, along with two other short stories, begins Friday, July 18 and runs two weekends through July 27.
Miss Nelson can't control her crazy classroom because she's just too nice. But when she disappears, her replacement is the hard-as-nails, detention-loving, recess-canceling, homework-overloading substitute teacher Viola Swamp! With the Big Test approaching, the kids suddenly realize how much they miss Miss Nelson and they'll do anything - including hiring a private eye - to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back. (Playscripts, Inc.)
Members of the cast are the 30 plus kids who are attending the theatre’s 2-week camp. Helpers during the camp, who also serve as the crew for the production, are members of several high school and college theater departments. Other camp helpers include many adults who are actors, parents, or guest speakers.

Sun, 09/16/2012 - 2:00pm
Sun, 09/23/2012 - 2:00pm

Theatre Off The Square will show a production of “Red, White, and Tuna” at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays, with 2 p.m. matinees on Sunday from Friday, Sept. 7 to Sunday, Sept. 23 at 114 N. Denton in Weatherford. Tickets are available 45 minutes prior to curtain, but reservations are strongly recommended. Call 817-341-8687 to make a reservation or if you have questions.

The show was written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, and produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Ltd. The third installment in the Tuna series takes the audience through another satirical ride into the hearts and minds of the polyester-clad citizens of Texas' third smallest town. Along with Tuna's perennial favorites, some new Tuna denizens burst into the Fourth of July Tuna High School Class Reunion. This sets the stage for a show full of fireworks and fun from the land where the Lion's Club is too liberal, and Patsy Cline never dies. Greater Tuna was one of TOTS’ best selling shows; so don’t miss this opportunity to see the sequel. Contains Adult language.
