Parents Night Out

Impact Athletic Training Center will hold Parents Night Out events from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, August 16, and Friday, September 20. Activities include bouncing, flipping, gaming, dancing and watching a performance from a gymnastics team. Concessions will be available.

The cost is $12 for children and the funds benefit the Impact Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises funds to help offset the cost of competitive gymnastics training. Children must be at least 4-years-old to participate.

Kidney Health Update

Andy Hickman will be the keynote speaker at “Tune In and Turn On - A Kidney Health Update” held from noon - 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Radisson Fort Worth Fossil Creek, 2540 Meacham Blvd.

Sessions will include “Hemodialysis Catheters - Howtotake care of yours,” “Diabetes - Create your HealthyEating Plan,” Gettlng Results - Food. Fitness, and You” and “Transplant - Everything You Want to Know.”

Painting Workshop with Jan Bateman

The Weatherford Art Association will present a painting workshop with artist Jan Bateman for beginner and intermediate painters wanting more knowledge on the use of color and color theory. Classes will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 17.

Participants will use oil paints on canvas or paper (their choice). Ms. Bateman will discuss and demonstrate the use of the color wheel to determine color choices in a painting and will discuss color theory. Participants are to bring their own supplies which include the following: a color wheel, oil paints (cadmium red, alizarin crimson, phthalo blue, ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow med., hansa yellow light, lemon yellow, titanium white, ivory black, burnt umber and burnt sienna), assorted brushes, paper towels and a trash bag, odorless turpentine, containers for wash out, soft drawing pencils or charcoal, sketch pad for initial composition and a reference photo.

Jan Bateman, a resident of Weatherford, started her art career at Oklahoma State University, Texas Woman’s University and Weatherford College. Her successful 25-year career as a commercial artist and fashion illustrator lends confidence to her control of design and technique. She credits perfecting her skills with private lessons from some of the nation’s most well known artists, including Rod Riddick, Neil Boyle, Jim Wilcox, Louis Escobedo, Zhang Wen Zin, and renowned portrait painters Bettina Steinke and Daniel Green.

Tea Party to host Eric Mahroum

Eric Mahroum, candidate for State Board of Education, will speak to the Parker County Tea Party at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at Victory Baptist Church, 1311 E. Bankhead Hwy in Weatherford.

Mahroum is a Fort Worth native, who grew up and attended public school in Tarrant County. He has ideas to share on the overseeing of the Permanent School Fund and the most efficient way of using the tax dollars that are paid for education.

Art Association Meeting

The July Weatherford Art Association meeting will be held on Monday, July 22, at the Firehouse Gallery at 119 Palo Pinto. An art critique will take place at 6 p.m. for anyone interested in having their work reviewed. The guest artist this month will be local pastel artist, Jan Bateman. Jan's formal training began in Oklahoma. She was a professional commercial artist and fashion illustrator for 25 years. Jan paints both in oils and pastels and has received many awards and accolades for her work. Her demonstration will focus on Color Analysis and Color Theory. Garage Sale

Impact Athletic Training Center will have a garage sale beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at 108 Prairie Ridge (in Prairie Ridge Estates off Bankhead). Parkinson’s Support Group

Spring Creek Musical

Special to The Community News: Don Floyd welcomes people who attend the Spring Creek Musical.The Spring Creek Musical will be held at 6 p.m. Friday June 14, in the 
tabernacle located on Hwy. 51 between Weatherford and Granbury. The old time musical. consisting of bluegrass, gospel and country music. is held the second Friday night of each month. A concession stand is available with all proceeds going to the expenses of the utilities and upkeep of the 100-plus year old building. The musical is free and open to the public. Cowgirl Battle of the Burger

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame will host the first annual Cowgirl Battle of the Burger in partnership with Fort Worth, Texas Magazine and The Community News from 6-10:30 p.m. Friday, June 14. on the plaza in front of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, 1720 Gendy Street in Fort Worth.

Local hamburger restaurants will participate to win the title of Cowtown’s Best Burger. Participating vendors include: Brownstone, Chop House Burger, M & O Station Grill, Kincaid’s, Shaw’s Patio Bar and Grill, and Tommy’s Hamburgers, with more to come.

Armadillo Races will begin at 6 p.m. Hamburger judging will take place at 7:30 p.m. Luke Wade and No Civilians will perform at 8 p.m. followed by Dan Roberts at 9 p.m. Additional activities include: face painting, roping lessons, horseshoes, photo booth, raffle prizes, and the opportunity to pose with a longhorn.

Cowgirl Battle of the Burger is free to the public. Burgers and drinks will be available for purchase from participating vendors. Rahr and Son’s Brewery will provide beer; in addition, Times Ten Cellar will have wine available for purchase. The Original Jolley Trolley will also provide dessert.

The presenting sponsor of the Cowgirl Battle of the Burger is Fort Worth, Texas Magazine. Other sponsors, thus far, are The Community News, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, Taylor’s Rentals Range Resources and 92.1 Hank FM.

Kidfish

Jerry's Chevrolet will host KidFish from 9 a.m. To 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8 in the Jerry's parking lot. Kids will get the opportunity to fish for catfish. Along with the fishing, there will also be bounce houses and grilled hot dogs.
