The next meeting of the Volunteer Musicians of Parker County will be held Thursday, May 15 at the Weatherford Senior Center on Holland Lake Drive. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments.
The group meets on the third Thursday of the month with an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m., introducing musicians, discussing musical performance related topics and introducing an activity director from one or two of the local living centers.
The second part of the meeting is a jam session where musicians can introduce themselves to each other musically

Parker County TEA Party’s guest speaker for the May meeting will be Kevin Freeman, considered one of the world’s leading experts on the issues of economic warfare and financial terrorism as well as the New York best selling author of “Secret Weapon” and his newest book “Game Plan” discussing global cyber-economic warfare/terrorism: http://secretweapon.org/about-author/. The speaking event will be held May 8 at Victory Baptist Church (Educational Building) at 1311 E. Bankhead Dr., Weatherford, near the intersection of E. Bankhead Hwy and Allen Street. There will be a meet-and-greet from 6:30-7 p.m. and the speaking event from 7-8 with an opportunity for a book signing at the event. Parkinson's Support Group of Tarrant County will meet Monday May 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Broadway Baptist Church, Third Floor, 305 W. Broadway, Fort Worth. Shelley Crutchfield of Medtronic will present a very informative program covering Deep Brain Stimulation, which is a relatively new process to deal with certain Parkinson's symptoms. The 22nd annual Komen Greater Fort Worth Race for the Cure will be held Saturday, May 10 at Ridgmar Mall. The event will feature a 5k and one mile fun run/walk, a breast cancer survivor parade, Kids for the Cure activities an a KoMEN Cave for male breast cancer survivors and co-survivors of women fighting the disease.
Registration is open at komengreaterfw.org, and individuals can register in person at Luke’s Locker locations in Fort Worth and Colleyville starting May 3.
The goal of the Greater Fort Worth Race for the Cure is to raise funds for breast cancer research, screening, treatment and education for women and men battling breast cancer in the Komen Greater Fort Worth service area of Tarrant, Parker, Johnson and Hood counties. Since 1992, more than 210,000 people have participated in the local Race for the Cure, raising more than $22 million dollars for the cause. In the March 2014, the Affiliate funded six grants to community organizations totaling $600,000
A military boot camp is being offered in Aledo for high school age teens who have completed grades 9-12.
It will be held June 23-28 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aledo Fore Dept. and costs $180. Activities and lessons include drill, physical training/fitness, core values, leadership and team building.

A CD release party for Aledo’s DeAnn Spence is planned Friday, April 25 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Parson’s Table in Aledo, 200 S. FM 1187.
This is the first solo album for the 1984 Aledo graduate, although she has recorded two previous CDs with the bluegrass band FullHouse.
Aledo author Sherrie S. McLeRoy will sign copies of her new book, "Texas Adoption Activist Edna Gladney: A Life and Legacy of Love" Saturday, April 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble on Hulen in Fort Worth. Also signing will be Mike Nichols, author of "Lost Fort Worth."
Crossroads Youth Ministries of Parker County will hold its annual Golf Tournament and Concert Friday, April 18 at Canyon West Golf Course, 160 Club House Dr. in Weatherford,
The golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. and will include a presentation of golf tournament prizes, live and silent auctions and a raffle drawing.
Ray Wylie Hubbard will take the stage at 8:15 p.m.
An individual ticket for golf that includes dinner and open seating for the concert is $100. Team sponsorships are also available. The deadline to register for the golf tournament is Monday, April 7.

The Weatherford Chamber of Commerce Annual Spring Swing Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, April 17 at Sugar Tree Golf Club in Dennis. There will be only an afternoon flight for a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Included with entry fee, a meal will be provided before and after the flight. Weatherford Regional Medical Center is sponsoring lunch. Plains Capital Bank and Jerry’s Auto Group will be hosting dinner.
Players are encouraged to send in entries quickly. Prices are $100 for an individual or $400 for a team.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available but are selling quickly. There are openings for the Celebrity Hole Sponsorships, which give a company representative the opportunity to meet and mingle with players and promote business to local folks. If unable to be present the day of the tournament but would like to have the business represented, have a Regular Hole Sponsorship or donate an item for the raffle.
