Weatherford Optimist junior golf tournament

Weatherford Optimist Club Junior Golf Tournament is Thursday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at Canyon West Golf Club.
Entry fee is $40. Divisions include boys and girls, 14-15 and 16-18 (age as of June 25). Registration is due June 2. For late registration call 817-992-1766. Fee is $50.
First through third place awards will be presented following the tournament.

Movie Night at the Yellow House

Yellow House Project is hosting an outdoor community family movie night Friday, June 13 at the Yellow House on Old Annetta Road, adjacent to the Aledo Post Office. The event was postponed from May 30.
The Disney film “Frozen” will be shown. The grounds open at 8 p.m., and the movie will begin after dark.
There will be free popcorn, and cotton candy and other concessions will be available.
Bring blankets or lawn chairs.
The movie idea came from a high school Bible study that has been meeting for about five weeks on the subject of service to others.

Low cost spay and neuter clinic

The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection will be providing a low cost spay and neuter transport for Parker County pets.
TCAP is a non-profit organization that provides low cost, preventative animal care to the North Texas community and operates storefront spay and neuter clinics in Denton, Fort Worth, Hurst and Burleson.
Prices for pet sterilization range from $35-$55, and appointments are available for cats and small dogs (under 30 lbs).
TCAP's safe and easy spay and neuter transport will save local residents the time required to drive to one of TCAP’s low cost spay clinics by picking up pets in the Weatherford Albertson’s parking lot May 29 and bringing them back in the same day. This is a convenient opportunity for Parker County residents because there is no added cost for clients who choose to use TCAP’s transports over a physically visiting one of TCAP’s locations.

The transport will pick up scheduled pets between 8-9 a.m. May 29 at the Albertsons on the corner of Fort Worth Highway 181 and Santa Fe Drive. Pet owners can call 940-566-5551 to schedule their pet an appointment for an affordable sterilization performed by an experienced, licensed and caring veterinarian.

Pet education classes

Parker County Pets Alive will hold two pet education classes, “The Four Essentials to a Stable Dog.”
The first part is Tuesday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the First Monday Trade Day Farm and Ranch Barn, Sante Fe Drive in Weatherford. Part 2 is Tuesday, May 27, also at 5:30 at the same location.
Suggested donation is $20 per attendee, with profits benefitting Parker County Pets Alive. Admission is waived for shelter staff and volunteers.

Marriage class scheduled

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will host a Twogether in Texas Marriage Education class Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center and is free of charge.
After completing the class couples will receive a certificate that can be taken to the county clerk to save $60 on a marriage license. Couples will not have to wait 72 hours to be married. The waiting period is waived for couples who complete the course.
The class focuses on helping couples develop communication and conflict resolution skills and other tools for building strong relationships.

Butterfly release for CASA

A memorial butterfly release benefiting CASA – Hope for Children is planned Sunday, June 1 at 3 p.m. at Chandor Gardens, 711 W. Lee St. in Weatherford.
One butterfly will be provided to represent the memory of a loved one, and additional butterflies will be available for a cost.

Volunteer Musicians of Parker County

The next meeting of the Volunteer Musicians of Parker County will be held Thursday, May 15 at the Weatherford Senior Center on Holland Lake Drive. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments.
The group meets on the third Thursday of the month with an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m., introducing musicians, discussing musical performance related topics and introducing an activity director from one or two of the local living centers.
The second part of the meeting is a jam session where musicians can introduce themselves to each other musically

Tea Party hosting author

Parker County TEA Party’s guest speaker for the May meeting will be Kevin Freeman, considered one of the world’s leading experts on the issues of economic warfare and financial terrorism as well as the New York best selling author of “Secret Weapon” and his newest book “Game Plan” discussing global cyber-economic warfare/terrorism: http://secretweapon.org/about-author/. The speaking event will be held May 8 at Victory Baptist Church (Educational Building) at 1311 E. Bankhead Dr., Weatherford, near the intersection of E. Bankhead Hwy and Allen Street. Parkinson's Support Group to meet

Parkinson's Support Group of Tarrant County will meet Monday May 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Broadway Baptist Church, Third Floor, 305 W. Broadway, Fort Worth. Shelley Crutchfield of Medtronic will present a very informative program covering Deep Brain Stimulation, which is a relatively new process to deal with certain Parkinson's symptoms. Komen Race for the Cure

The 22nd annual Komen Greater Fort Worth Race for the Cure will be held Saturday, May 10 at Ridgmar Mall. The event will feature a 5k and one mile fun run/walk, a breast cancer survivor parade, Kids for the Cure activities an a KoMEN Cave for male breast cancer survivors and co-survivors of women fighting the disease.
Registration is open at komengreaterfw.org, and individuals can register in person at Luke’s Locker locations in Fort Worth and Colleyville starting May 3.
The goal of the Greater Fort Worth Race for the Cure is to raise funds for breast cancer research, screening, treatment and education for women and men battling breast cancer in the Komen Greater Fort Worth service area of Tarrant, Parker, Johnson and Hood counties. Since 1992, more than 210,000 people have participated in the local Race for the Cure, raising more than $22 million dollars for the cause. In the March 2014, the Affiliate funded six grants to community organizations totaling $600,000
