Events in the Aledo Independent School District
Two parent informational meetings have been scheduled at McAnally Intermediate School by Principal Bob Harmon April 29 and May 1.
Both will be at the school cafeteria at 6:30 p.m., with the 29th meeting for parents of students coming from Vandagriff and Stuard Elementary Schools, and the 1st meeting for parents from McCall and Coder campuses.
In the fall, all fifth graders will attend McAnally, joining the sixth graders.
Following the meeting a video presentation will be posted on the school website for those unable to attend.
Bearcats and Boots, the Aledo Education Foundation's first benefit event, will be Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cendera Center.
The meal will be catered by the Wild Mushroom Steakhouse, and entertainment will be provided by Four Day Weekend.
Tickets may be purchased through the foundation's website, aledoef.org, and sponsorship information is also available.
Individual tickets are $100 each. Supporting table sponsors are $1,250 which includes a reserved table of eight (preferred seating) as well as recognition.
In its first year, the foundation handed out more than $90,000 in teacher grants to Aledo ISD educators.
A parent meeting about Attention Deficit Disorder is planned Tuesday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Vandagriff Elementary School
This meeting is open to any and all parents interested in learning more about ADD. It will be led by Lynn Carpenter, a counselor with more than 30 years’ experience working with children and families, including residential treatment, counseling, and work at The Parent Center.

Dr. Derek Citty, Aledo ISD superintendent, invites all interested parents to attend a meeting concerning the possible reconfiguration of grades for the elementary and intermediate campuses for 2014-15. The district is considering moving all 5th graders to McAnally Intermediate and making the elementary campuses for grades kindergarten through 4th and McAnally Intermediate for grades 5 and 6 beginning in the 2014-15 school year. Two informational meetings will be held:
Jan. 14 at 6 p.m., Coder Elementary Library, for McCall and Coder parents
Jan. 16 at 6 p.m., Vandagriff Elementary Library, for Vandagriff and Stuard parents
The Aledo Middle School and the Aledo High School will have their annual Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 17 in the Aledo High School Auditorium. The choir boosters will be selling popcorn, candy, water and $10 Bearcat discount cards.

The Parker County Retired Teachers will meet at 11:30 a.m. for lunch followed by a noon business meeting and program on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Central Christian Church’s Cuppett Hall, 1602 S. Main St., in Weatherford. The program will be presented by the Klassy Kloggers, a local dance group, who will be clogging to the music of the Christmas season. For lunch members will treat each other to their favorite Christmas dishes. There is no cost for lunch this month. Call 817-594-5748 to get more information.

The Parker County Retired Teachers will meet at 11:30 a.m. for a lunch followed by a noon business meeting and program on Nov. 5 at Central Christian Church's Cuppett Hall, 1602 S. Main St. in Weatherford. State Rep. Phil King will speak on the passage of SB 1458, which allows retired Texas teachers to receive a raise. Lunch for $8 will be catered by Baker's Ribs. The Aledo Choir will be offering another pumpkin patch at the Aledo Farmer's Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26. Pumpkins will be available along with face painting, various carnival games, a bounce house and lots of home baked treats. Also, discount cards for various Parker County vendors will be available for $10.

The 5th Annual AMS Student Council Trunk or Treat will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, prior to the varsity football game in the stadium parking lot. This is a free event for kids 10 years and younger. Costumes are encouraged.
