Ladycats fall in volleyball season opener

August 12, 2014 by Tony Eierdam

Tony Eierdam/The Community News: Aledo senior hitter Madison Lopez (15) sends down a kill Tuesday night during the Ladycats loss in four games to Waco Midway in the season opener. Lopez finished with 13 kills.

Class 6A Waco Midway used a tall and strong front row combined with a solid back row to defeat the Aledo Ladycats in four games Tuesday night in the volleyball season opener at the AHS gym.
Midway won the first two games by a 25-18 count before the Ladycats came back and won game three, 25-22, to cut the lead to 2-1 in the best-of-5 match.
Game four was tied at 20-20 before Midway went on a quick 4-2 run to take a 24-22 lead. A dink for a kill by Emily Clayton cut the lead to 24-23, but on the ensuing rally Midway's middle hitter executed a dink to the right side of the Ladycats' defense for the match-winning point as Midway won game four, 25-23.

Willow Park issues boiled water advisory

August 12, 2014 by Randy Keck

Willow Park has issued a boiled water advisory for August 12, 2014. The notice was worded as follows:

Due to a water main break and the loss of water pressure the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our Water System, the City of Willow Park Public Water System 1840027 to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes that may have been stirred up by the main break and loss of pressure, water for drinking, cooking and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, you may contact City Administrator, Matt Shaffstall at 817-441-7108. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Empty the shelter day planned

August 7, 2014 by Phil Major

August is one of the most difficult months to adopt pets, but the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter has plans to make this August one of the hottest adoption months yet.

Aug. 16 the Weatherford-Parker County Animal Shelter will work in conjunction with 33 other animal shelters in the Metroplex to host an “Empty the Shelter Day” event across North Texas. For this one-day event, the WPCAS will waive all fees associated with adoptions for approved adopters. That’s correct, adopt for free. And to make it easier for potential adopters, the shelter will be opening early at 10 a.m. and will stay open until 5 p.m.

As always, adoptions from WPCAS will include the animal’s spay or neuter, rabies and other core vaccinations, microchip, and discounted pet insurance from petfinder.com.
