Aledo greets convoy

The Military Vehicle Preservation Association made its way through Aledo and Willow Park this morning while retracing the historic 1920 Bankhead convoy route. Members of the community put out flags, balloons and signs to greet the drivers. For more photos and the full story, see the Oct. 9 edition of The Community News.

Historic military convoy traveling through Aledo Tuesday

The Military Vehicle Preservation Association will be coming through Aledo Tuesday morning as they retrace the 1920 historic Bankhead Highway route. The convoy, which has approximately 50 vehicles, is expected to travel through town shortly before 8:15 a.m. Aledo ISD officers will be on hand if needed for traffic assistance.

The group is following the path of a convoy executed in 1920 by the U.S. Army, designed to further the understanding of the uses of motorized transport.

It will enter town from the south side along Aledo/Iona Road, travel north on FM 1187 through town, and head west on Bankhead Highway before taking a break at the Aledo youth baseball fields.

Aledo's balanced offense leads Bearcats to 49-21 win over Burleson Centennial

Aledo junior quarterback Dillon Davis hurdles a Burleson Centennial defender on his way to the end zone Friday night during the Bearcats' 49-21 victory over the Spartans in a District 8-5A contest at Bearcat Stadium.

Aledo junior quarterback Dillon Davis accounted for four touchdowns and senior running back Caleb Primera ran 13 times for 89 yards and a score to lead the Bearcats to a convincing 49-21 victory over the Burleson Centennial Spartans Friday night in a District 8-5A game at Bearcat Stadium.

The win raises the Bearcats' record to 4-1 and 2-0 in district play. The loss drops Centennial to 1-1 in 8-5A.

Ladycats take top spot in District 8-5A after sweeping Burleson

Aledo middle Maddie Goings smashed a match-high 15 kills and junior setter Erin Weiss produced 36 assists to lead the Ladycats to a 25-12, 26-24, 25-11 victory over Burleson in a District 8-5A volleyball match Tuesday night at Burleson High School.

The win, coupled with Granbury's win over Burleson Centennial, puts the Ladycats all alone in first place with a sparkling 6-0 league record.

In addition to Goings' kills, junior outside hitters Amanda Norman, Peyton Lambert and Camryn McLelland combined for 19 kills.

Norman finished with seven kills, with Lambert and McLelland each adding six.

At the service line, Lambert and Norman each fired a pair of aces to lead AHS.

Aledo Homecoming Parade

Aledo High School Homecoming Junior Court queens Ellie Posey and Gillian King wave to the crowd and toss candy to children Monday during the Aledo High School Homecoming Parade. The parade ended at Bearcat Stadium where a pep rally followed. The Bearcats will take on Burleson Centennial at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bearcat Stadium on Homecoming Night.

Aledo teams win at Joshua: volleyball Ladycats sweep Lady Owls; football Bearcats blow out Owls, 70-0

Aledo senior Ryan Mullins (4) returns the opening kickoff for a touchdown Friday night during the Bearcats' 70-0 win at Joshua. Mullins scored three touchdowns as he also caught a pair of TD passes from quarterback Dillon Davis.

Aledo teams had their way today at Joshua as the Ladycats volleyball team swept the Lady Owls, and the Bearcats opened District 8-5A play with a convincing 70-0 victory over the Owls.

The Ladycats made quick work of Joshua with wins of 25-11, 25-14, 25-13 on Friday afternoon in a match that took just 55 minutes to play.

National Night Out October 6th

The Aledo ISD Police Department is pleased to announce the department’s hosting of the annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Aledo ISD Stadium. The event will begin at 6:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM.

The community is encouraged to come out, meet your neighbors and join in this informative crime and drug prevention get-together.

National Night Out involves over 15,325 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all over 37.1 million people are expected to participate in this year’s 30th Annual National Night Out.

National Night Out is designed to:

(1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness

(2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts;

Ladycats roll with single-digits sweep over Crowley

Aledo sophomore Drew Gates (2) bumps a pass to the front row as Peyton Lambert (4) gets into position Tuesday night during the Ladycats' 25-7, 25-4, 25-8 victory over Crowley at the AHS gym.

Aledo junior middle hitter Maddie Goings recorded a match-high 17 kills and junior outside hitters Camryn McLelland and Peyton Lambert combined for 13 as the trio led the Ladycats to a convincing 25-7, 25-4, 25-8 victory over Crowley Tuesday night in District 8-5A action at the AHS gym.

The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 4-0.
